Episode Sun - 101 "Kheth"

Trouble comes to Tyrak'n when the Dragovar warship, Javanvashir docs in Tyrak'n bay. The first mate, Taazhon, notices that the town drunk Johias Ilum (or 'Slappy' as the heroes call him) is carrying a Fang of Ardyn. Taazhon attempts to apprehend Ilum but the heroes intercede on Johias's behalf. Captain Zahkijin of the Javanvashir clashes with Magistrate von Zarkyn in front of the entire town and von Zarkyn is forced to make arrangements for Johias' exile.

The Goliath, Krayden (Mike Goluch), approaches Johias while he is in the Talisman. Krayden lets Johias know that he is aware of his involvement with the Knights of Ardyn; he tells Johias that he is a disgrace and that he should feel ashamed that he has fallen from glory! Shortly after, von Zarkyn and some town guards appear and apprehend Johias - after a brief argument with the heroes.

Some pirates in the bar begin heckling Krayden and a fight breaks out. The owner of the Talisman, the Tiefling, Lucien and his son Dama'kos (Ian Phillips) jump into the brawl. A mysterious friend, Bastion (Manuel Salazar), who is a Cleric of Erathis spots what's going on in the Talisman and jumps in to assist his comrades in the fight. They eventually knock out all the pirates.

Lucien informs his son, Dama'kos, that he saw two strange characters de-board the Javanvashir: A Dargonborn female and a one armed elf. Lucien explaines that when the two strangers entered the Talisman, one of the locals, Denarion Morrow, acted perturbed and left soon after. He informs Dama'kos to keep a close eye on them.

When night falls Dama'kos and Bastion make way to Morrow's house. They discover Morrow hiding in the shadows near by, as if he was expecting something to happen. Captain Morrow explains that the Dragonborn female, Serusa, is there to kill the orphans living in the town, as they were a failed experiment.

Dama'kos and Bastion return to the Talisman, where Dama'kos wakes up Serusa in her room and tries to con his way inside. Serusa angrily slams the door in his face. Dama'kos then proceeds to attempt the same trick on the one armed elf, which results in a fight, leaving the one armed elf dead. Dama'kos finds a box containing a cursed magical arm inside the room.

The whole group is arrested, along with Serusa and thrown in the local dungeon while they question everyone about the murder of the elf. It is eventually determined that Dama'kos is at fault.

As the town's Magistrate, von Zarkyn lets the heroes know that he is not allowed to help them, but is willing to look the other way. He plans a break out for Dama'kos to take place. The heroes accept their fate as fugitives and flee into the jungle. As a favor to von Zarkyn, the heroes agree to complete two tasks. A retinue of guards that is normally responsible for delivering goods to the dragon, Keth have all fallen sick and the heroes must go in their place to maintain Tyrakn's bargain with the island's dragon overlord. Moreover, a mysterious -seemingly sentient- black cloud has been seen wandering through the town late at night. This strange black cloud appears to have a connection to the town guards who have fallen sick. The heroes second task was to find the being and destroy it.

The heroes venutred off into the night, after breaking Dama'kos out of prison. The following day they travel to Keth's lair, to drop off several cows and some bags of gold to the dragon. When they arrived, Keth harasses them because he is not familiar with the heroes, then demands tribute and snatches Ravenor's (Rob Bessett) sacred magical weapon as payment.

Not having any of it, the Deva Avenger, Ravenor marched straight into the dragon's den to get his sword back! Finding, Kheth basking on a pile of gold, unaware, Dama'kos attempts to sneak in and steal the sword back. The dragon's head snaps up and glares right at Dama'kos. The dragon roared, and spread its wings in furious anger! The end seemed near, until a strange, copper dragon appeared just outside Keth's lair at that moment. An army of kobolds attacked the copper dragon and Keth clashed with it.

The heroes, seeing their final chance (snagged some treasure and) ran....

Scouring the jungles of Keth, the heroes eventually tracked down the mysterious black fog, realizing it was an Oni. Combat ensued as they beat the Oni down, causing him to retreat into the jungle.

Iomandra & the Dragon Sea: The Sunland CA Chronicles

Welcome to my blog for the D&D Campaign, Iomandra and the Dragon Sea: The Sunland Chronicles. I am the Dungeon Master of this campaign, Tom. The campaign setting, Iomandra and the Dragon Sea, was created by Chris Perkins, the creative manager at Wizards of the Coast. Though I have played and run various editions of D&D for many years, this campaign is my first experience playing/running 4th edition.

The game will be run monthly and chronicled here along the way. The blog is mostly here for the players, however, all are invited to enjoy its contents. This campaign is taking the place of Mike Goluch's epic 5 year campaign that has just come to an end! Our games will continue in the previous fashion of his campaign; later afternoon/late night games, run in Sunland CA at Manny's.

The players to be are as follows: Mike Goluch, Manny Salazar, Rob Bessettt & Ian Phillips. The first game will be sometime in late January 2010.

Enjoy,

DM Tom McDermott
